A pump head calculator estimates total dynamic head, often called TDH, before selecting a pump. It combines static lift, required outlet pressure, pipe friction, fittings allowance, and design margin into one head value. MEP engineers use it for chilled water pumps, domestic water booster pumps, transfer pumps, irrigation pumps, and preliminary plantroom checks. The calculator helps confirm whether a pump duty looks reasonable before checking a manufacturer pump curve. It is useful for tender review, early equipment schedules, pressure-zone checks, and comparing pipe-route options. The result is not a final pump selection because real design still needs pipe material, valve and fitting losses, NPSH, pump efficiency, operating point, diversity, standby philosophy, control sequence, and local code review. Use the result as a planning estimate, then verify against approved hydraulic calculations and manufacturer data.
