A fire pump sizing calculator estimates the preliminary pump duty needed to support a fire protection system. It combines sprinkler demand, hose or hydrant allowance, residual pressure, elevation difference, pipe-loss allowance, and design margin to produce a planning flow and head. Fire protection engineers and MEP reviewers use it for early concept checks, tender sanity checks, and discussions before formal hydraulic calculations are complete. The calculator can support NFPA 20-style planning language, but it is not a clause-by-clause code engine and does not replace approved fire hydraulic software. Final fire pump selection must be verified against NFPA, civil defense or authority requirements, hazard classification, sprinkler density, hose stream rules, water supply test data, pump curve, driver type, controller, suction conditions, and project specifications. Selects the planning profile used for conservative defaults. Use the project authority or client standard where known; otherwise use the closest regional profile. Options: GCC/Civil Defense planning, NFPA planning.
Sprinkler system water demand. Use hydraulic calculation demand or approved preliminary hazard-class estimate.
Hose stream or hose allowance demand. Use authority/NFPA/project requirement for duration and simultaneous flow.
Hydrant water demand. Use local civil defense, NFPA, or authority requirement for simultaneous outdoor/indoor demand.
Static elevation head. 10 m water column is approximately 1 bar; include the height difference to the highest/critical point.
Required residual pressure at the critical point. Use authority, sprinkler, hydrant, pump, or equipment requirement.
Estimated pipe friction loss. Include fittings and equivalent length where possible; final design needs hydraulic calculation.
Design safety margin. 5-15% is common for planning; excessive margin can oversize equipment, cables, pumps, or tanks.
Pump flow combines sprinkler, hose, and hydrant demand. Pump head adds elevation, residual pressure, and pipe-loss pressure converted to meters.
Inputs are treated as planning assumptions. The calculator shows warnings when entered values fall outside practical thresholds or selected standard-profile limits.
